Prices
The Journal is free to read. These optional paid services, offered by our editors and contributors, help fund it. Each lists what it includes, whom it suits and what it costs.

ContactFrom first enquiry to a paid invoice
Nothing is bought on this website: there is no cart and no card payment. Ordering happens by correspondence, so you can ask questions and agree the details before any money changes hands. Here is how it works from start to finish.
Send an enquiry
Use the contact form to say which service interests you and what you hope to plan or learn. A few lines are enough, such as the region you have in mind, how many people are travelling and any dates you already have.
What you leave withA message received by the editors with your request and your preferred way to be reached.
We reply with details
One of our editors or contributors answers by email, asks any questions needed and describes what the service would include. If the service does not suit your request, we say so honestly and suggest an alternative.
What you leave withA written outline of the scope and the price that applies to your request.
Receive written confirmation
When you agree to the scope, we send a written confirmation setting out what is included, what is not and the price. Nothing begins until you have read it and replied that it is right.
What you leave withA confirmation email you can keep as a record of what was agreed.
Pay the invoice by bank transfer
After confirmation we send an invoice. You pay it by bank transfer using the reference shown on the invoice. We start work once payment has arrived, and we do not take card payments or online payments.
What you leave withA paid invoice and the start date of your service.
Receive your service
Your guide, plan or consultation is delivered as agreed. If something needs adjusting within the agreed scope, tell us and we will revise it. Cancellations and refunds follow the Payment and Refund Policy.
What you leave withThe finished guide or completed consultation, with notes where they were part of the service.
Questions about paying and cancelling
These are the questions readers ask most often about ordering, paying and changing their minds. If yours is not here, write to us through the contact form.
Can I order a service directly on this website?
No. The site has no cart, checkout or online payment. You send an enquiry through the contact page, we reply by email, and we confirm the details in writing. Only then do we send an invoice, so you always know what you are paying for.
How do I pay?
By bank transfer, using the details and reference printed on your invoice. We do not accept card payments or use an online payment service. Work begins once the transfer has arrived, and we will tell you when it has been received.
Will you tell me the price before I commit?
Yes. The price is stated in the written confirmation before any invoice is sent. The estimate on this page is a guide, and the confirmed figure may differ if your request is larger or smaller than the typical one.
What if I change my mind after confirming?
Tell us as soon as you can by email. What can be refunded depends on whether work has started, as explained in the Payment and Refund Policy. We handle each case fairly and in writing, so there are no surprises.
Can I get a refund if the service does not suit me?
Refunds follow the Payment and Refund Policy. If a delivered service does not match what we confirmed in writing, tell us and we will correct it or discuss a refund. We cannot promise a particular outcome from any service.
Do paid services affect what the Journal writes?
No. Our editorial choices are made separately, and nobody can pay for coverage or for a favourable mention. The services simply help fund the magazine, and the Editorial Desk page explains how stories are chosen and checked.
Are taxes included in the prices?
Prices are shown in Canadian dollars. Applicable Canadian taxes are added where required, and the written confirmation and invoice show the full amount. If you are unsure about taxes, ask when you send your enquiry.
Who will I be working with?
Your request goes to the editor or contributor whose department fits it best, for example Places to Explore for a weekend guide. The confirmation names who will handle it, and you can reply to that person directly.
Write to us through the contact form with the service you have in mind. An editor will reply by email, and nothing is charged until you have confirmed the details in writing.
